Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri

Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri earned his PhD in Food Security from the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), University of Greenwich, United Kingdom. Currently, he is the member of various official bodies, including National Economic Advisory Council, Advisory Committee of Planning Commission of Pakistan, and National Advisory Committee --- a body formed jointly by the Government of Pakistan and the USIAD for Pakistan Strategic Support Porgram.
Various policy forums/advisory boards at national and international levels frequently invite Dr Suleri to get policy advice on different issues. He is also the Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Business Management Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and serving on Board of Studies of various universities. From 2010-12, he served as the Member of Board of Management of Pakistan State Oil (PSO), and chaired PSO Board's Audit and Finance Committee.
Prior to joining SDPI, he was the Head of Programs, OXFAM GB, Pakistan. He has conducted intensive research on issues like resilient livelihoods, food insecurity, regional trade, and political economy of development. His other research interests include institutional reforms, non-traditional security issues, and energy governance.
He was the part of an official delegation of Government of Pakistan to WTO Hong Kong Ministerial Conference in 2005. He was also the part of official delegation in Rio+20 United Nations Sustainable Development Conference in 2012. He has represented civil society at the Doha and Cancun Ministerial Conferences of WTO (2001 and 2003) as well as World Food Summit (FYL).
Besides trainings and workshops, Dr Suleri delivers lectures on different aspects of sustainable development to parliamentarians, academia, government officials, journalists, and development practitioners.
His research papers are published in national and international journals. He also contributes his policy analysis on sustainable development issues in major national and regional newspapers and is invited as guest analyst on electronic media.
