Environmental Impact Assessmen  (Training)

Introduction:

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is the identification of ecological, social and economic impacts of proposed development projects and their possible remedial or mitigation measures. Pakistanís federal and provincial legislation makes EIA mandatory for all development projects. The EIA aims to assess the impact at an early stage of project planning, design and development and build into the project alternatives, and ways and means to mitigate the adverse effects. This process leads to environment-friendly projects and makes them cost effective and sustainable. The EIA, therefore, is an essential part of project design and appraisal. Currently, at many private and public forums, a dire need has been emphasized for institutional and personal capacity building regarding conducting EIA and evaluating Environmental Impact Statements (EIS).†
