The session will critically examine the bankruptcy of current economic policies that continue to benefit only a few by keeping the majority marginalized whilst endangering our country’s environment. As an alternative, it proposes progressive economic policies for an equitable sustainable development necessary to prevent recurrent socio-economic instabilities and crises.
Under the term ‘Economy of Tomorrow,’ the panelists will discuss what a normative vision of a “Good Society” could look like for Pakistan and how alternate economic policies could contribute to a more inclusive, financially stable and environmentally sustainable system – opening the way to a more just society.
The panelists will stimulate a discussion about:
A shift of decision-making powers for economic governance to effective democratic control involving a broader array of public stakeholders;
The design of social and human development policies to create opportunities for all whilst protecting the poorest from socio-economic vulnerabilities;
Ensuring sustained growth for creating productive jobs with decent work and living income, especially for youths and women
Enhancing innovation and entrepreneurship to increase productivity and competitiveness of Pakistan’s export sectors
Progressive budget policies to steer economic development for contributing towards a “Good Society” Pakistan.
