Training Workshop on Project Management (29– 31 July 2008)
Venue: The training workshop will be held at SDPI or in a local hotel in Islamabad.

A major part of time and cost over-runs is attributed to delays encountered in project implementation. Good project management ensures effective implementation and timely completion of projects. It enables managers to have optimal use of human and material resources. Current project management techniques require a departure from traditional approach as it involves improved systems methodology on project selection, planning, implementation, controlling, evaluation and termination.

The training workshop is designed for middle and senior level managers, project planners, team leaders, coordinators and volunteers, who are directly, or indirectly, involved in projects, or are expected to be engaged in such activities in future. The training will be useful for participants from industry, social sector development organizations, academia, international funding agencies, NGOs and consultants.

The workshop will be based on interactive sessions with focus on experiential and interactive learning models. There will be structured exercises, group discussions, analysis, role-plays and management games.

English will be the medium of instruction for this workshop. However, an effort will be made to conduct the workshop using a mixture of English and Urdu.

Rifat Shams is a renowned trainer. She has a diversified experience in the field of training, capacity building and institutional development. She has accredited experience of over a decade in developing proposals, managing partners, capacitating local NGOs, initiating and implementing multi sectoral programmes, fund raising, publicity, advocacy and designing and developing institutional development initiatives.

Her core competencies are designing and conducting training in the field of project management, gender & governance, partnership management, programme development & implementation, proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation, Social mobilization and generic & specific TOTs. She has managed multi-sectoral projects in AJK and Pakistan along with long and short terms assignments with many international and national organizations including UNDP, WFP, ADBP, UNESCO, UNICEF, ISCOS, NRSP, PPAF, PRSP, SPO, Agriculture departments and various national NGOs and local CBOs. She has been managing portfolio of grants for PPAF, WFP, UNDP, ISCOS CISL and CIDA at different times of her career move and has acquired a practical experience of project management.

As being a trainer, she believes in participation and innovation. She introduces different ideas and practices to ensure dynamic participation of the participants and gives value to the input of professionals from different background.

Please return the registration form to the Program Support Associate, SDPI-Centre for Capacity Building, by by 18 July 2008 at the latest via fax or mail. The institute will confirm the registration upon receipt of fee by a return fax. Please use a separate registration form for each nominee. Seats are limited; the applicants will be registered on a first come, first serve basis. Bookings will close for registration if all the seats are taken up before the last date.

10 or more days before workshop Full refund
Nine to four days before workshop 75 percent refund
Three days before workshop 50 percent refund
Two or less days before workshop No refund

Top of this page Cancellation/postponement
SDPI reserves the right to cancel or postpone the workshop if circumstances require. In such an event, SDPI will ensure that registered participants are informed as soon as possible. SDPI will also refund registration fees according to our refund procedures.

Top of this page Award of certificates

  • Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the instructional sessions will be awarded completion certificates.
  • Trainees who for genuine reasons are unable of complete 85 percent attendance but attend 60 to 84 percent instructional sessions will be given partial attendance certificates.
  • Trainees attending less than 60 percent of instructional sessions will be given letters specifying the sessions that they attended.
