The high rate of drop outs in Pakistan is a cause for concern and it means that social and public policies have to be realigned to tackle this important issue. Although there are many reasons for children dropping out of school as given in various studies on the subject, this paper tries to explore the reasons from the perspective of girls’ parents, teachers and students. The findings in this paper are drawn from a research study on drop outs in Pakistan based on the country wide data collected from four provinces, Azad
Jammu and Kashmir and the federal capitals. Data was compiled and analyzed by using simple descriptive methods. The major reasons behind drop outs will be discussed at the end of the paper with recommendations on how to tackle the issue of high drop out rates
