"Organization in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council since 2022"
Concept Note:
International Women's Day is a time to celebrate the achievements and advancements of women and to bring attention to the ongoing struggle for gender equality. The theme for this year's International Women's Day, "DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality," highlights the role that innovation and technology can play in promoting gender equality. This seminar aims to explore the opportunities and challenges presented by the digital revolution in terms of promoting gender equality in Pakistan. The role of women in technology and innovation is often considered insignificant, despite women comprising a large part of the population in Pakistan. By providing access to the digital world to half of these women, the economy and status of the country could greatly improve. The limited digital inclusion of women only exacerbates the gap, and women also face harassment in the cyber world. To bring about technological and innovative advancement, it is crucial to address these challenges and include women in all fields, including the digital world. In Pakistan, women face significant challenges in accessing
technology and participating in the digital economy. According to a report by the Digital Rights Foundation, only 30% of internet users in Pakistan are women, and only 15% of women in Pakistan have access to the internet. This seminar will not only raise awareness about the importance of including women in the digital economy but also provide attendees with the opportunity to take concrete steps toward promoting gender equality in the digital world. By working together, we can create a world where everyone has equal opportunities to participate in the digital economy and to use technology for their personal and professional advancement.
