SDPI's Program on Ecological Sustainability and Circular Economy (PESACE) is dedicated to advancing sustainable development by carrying out extensive cutting-edge research, facilitating evidence-based policy, engaging stakeholders, and building capacity. Its four research priorities are environmental diplomacy, circular economy, urban resilience, ESG, and climate advocacy.
The theme of environmental diplomacy will identify policy approaches that promote ecological sustainability and circular economy principles in Pakistan and beyond. This includes evaluating best practises in environmental governance, engaging stakeholders, and working across borders to address environmental issues.
The Circular Economy theme will capitalise on identifying opportunities for waste reduction, resource efficiency, and closed-loop systems that can promote long-term economic growth. This involves analysing circular business models, product design, and resource management practises that can aid in waste reduction, resource conservation, and environmental impact reduction.
The focus of the urban resilience theme will be on developing solutions to environmental challenges that cities face, such as climate change, scarcity of resources, and natural disasters. This involves studying green infrastructure, urban planning, and risk management strategies that can help improve urban resilience and promote sustainable development.
The ESG [ED1] theme will investigate the incorporation of environmental, social, and governance factors into business decision-making, as well as the development of strategies to promote sustainability. This includes investigating sustainable investment practises, ESG reporting standards, and sustainable business models that can help promote sustainable development and reduce environmental and social risks.
The program's goal with climate advocacy is to raise awareness of the urgent need for action on climate change, as well as to mobilise stakeholders in government, business, and civil society to take action towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to the effects of climate change, and promoting sustainable development.
Through research collaborations, gap analysis, policy briefs, and other research outputs, the programme aims to provide evidence-based policy support to stakeholders in government, business, and civil society. This can help promote sustainable practises, circular economy principles, and ecological sustainability in Pakistan and beyond. Furthermore, through stakeholder dialogues, capacity building programmes, and other outreach efforts, the programme aims to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders to promote sustainable development and drive towards a greener future that benefits all.
