DDF Hyderabad: Sindh University Squabble

Mar 28

9:00AM to 4:30PM

Royal Guesthouse, Hyderabad

Pakistan is unfortunately one of those
countries where only one public university is ranked among the top 200
universities of the world. The reason behind is bad governance, abuse of power
by politicians and poor administration.

DDF
in Hyderabad focused on the conflict between the students of Sindh University, vice-chancellor
and teachers on account of lack of transparency and corruption in the
administration.
In this forum, student of Sindh
University participated in a huge number whereas university teachers presented
the facts and causes of the issue. The reason of conflict was stated to be the
ineligibility of the V-C to fulfill his roles and responsibilities. Teachers
and students believed that he is not competent enough for the position. They
alleged that his appointment had not been made on merit but on political basis.
?Teachers demands are not fulfilled ,that?s why they have lost interest in the university
affairs. They do not take classes regularly due to which students suffer.? Class work has almost come to a standstill. The
quality of education at the university is deteriorating day by day. The
administration is non-cooperative towards the students due to which students often
come out on the roads and go on strikes. As a result, a bad academic as well as
law and order situation prevails on the varsity premises.

For cooperative action plan, a
committee was formed, which will add to the ongoing struggle to help resolve
the issue. This committee will also engage politicians, government and students
to develop a strategy to overcome the problems. The student will also launch
awareness campaigns to promote education culture in the university.
