Concept Note:
Youth is considered linchpin for development, prosperity and strengthening democracy. It is the force that steer the process of wellbeing and democratization of a nation and shape the future for next generation. Pakistan has been blessed with a huge bulge of youth which has tremendous energy and will to compete and take Pakistan forward.
However, Pakistan could not devise right set of policies and strategies to capitalize this potential. Education is fundamental to develop and exploit the potential of youth but Pakistan was not able to build the institutions to educate the youth. Lack of education turned youth towards less productive and negative activities like extremism, crimes, and violence etc. Now big cities e.g. Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar are facing problem of higher rate of involvement youth in criminal activities.
Moreover, lack of education also hinders the process of democratization in Pakistan. Uneducated people do not understand the democratic system and their constitutional rights. Therefore, non-democratic forces and so called democratic forces exploit them.
SDPI by recognizing these factors and potential of youth is organizing this seminar. Objectives of seminar are as following;
1. What Role youth can play in national development and in the process of democratization
2. What policies and strategies are required to ensure positive role of youth
3. How current narrative of extremism and violence can be changed among youth
4. How youth can be involved in decision making
