The seminar
seeks to discuss and highlight the involvement of men in gender activism and
issues related to women’s rights. As the Men as a group benefit from
patriarchy, it becomes very important to study their motivations for ‘women
rights activisim’ which presents an interesting side of the story. Rozan’s
research study on the subject narrates the stories of 5 men who took
affirmative actions against sexual violence against men, women and transgender
persons in the context of Pakistan. Findings of the study challenge the popular
notion of masculinity as static, unchangeable and biological. The study
attempts to work with men on women’s issues and tries to connect men’s own
experiences of victimhood and shifting of power and authority.
