Poverty as Functioning Deprivation
3:00PM to 5:00PM
SDPI's Seminar Hall, 3rd Floor Taimur Chambers, 10-D (WEST), Fazl-ul-Haq Road, Blue Area, Islamabad.
Poverty alleviation, placed as goal number one in SDGs as was in MDGs, has always remained a major challenge for the human kind. The new commitment, however, comprehends multifaceted nature of poverty by committing to “ending poverty in all its forms”. However, no consensus exists about the definition and measurement of poverty. Going beyond money base measures, recent understanding sees poverty as much more than lack of income extending the scope to Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) to very broad Social Exclusion. Hunger, unemployment, and ill heath are just some of many dimensions of poverty.
