Over the past decades, it has become clear that young people
are increasingly playing a major role in political affairs, particularly in
societies in transition. In conflicts, youth are not only the major victims but
are often the major protagonists of violence. In other situations, youth are
organizing not only to respond to events but to play a major role within them.
In each country, this is a manifestation of a global movement of young people
to take on more significant leadership roles in their communities and nation.
?
In Pakistan, this is equally true. In this crucial period in
the country?s history, young people need to take on the responsibility of
bringing about long-term, sustainable peace. However their role is yet to be
defined.

Search for Common Ground| Pakistan in collaboration with
Sustainable Development Policy Institute organized ?Young Leaders for Peace?
a five day training workshop to address these issues.? In this highly interactive workshop, the role
of young people was explored in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding. The
focus was on the diverse roles that young people can play in advancing
Pakistan, shaping its culture, and building sustainable peace.
