Food Insecurity in South Asia
Hello and welcome to the May issue of The SARCist where we focus on food security concerns.
Food security is a complex issue and centres around the debates over the mere availability of food to access to food which draws in the debate on equitable distribution, poverty and so on. Of course there are structural concerns too related to availability of the food products. These relate to the fact that the South Asia region is caught in a low equilibrium trap with low productivity of staples, supply shortfalls, high prices, low returns to farmers and area diversification.
