Economic body reconstituted
The government on Tuesday reconstituted the Economic Advisory Council (EAC)
to assist it in economic policy making.
The 20-member advisory body will be headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and
comprise some former ministers, economists, civil society representatives and
economists from the public and private sectors and senior officers, an official
statement said.
The new members of the council include Shafqat Ali Jamoot, a former minister
in General Pervez Musharraf’s cabinet, Dr Ishrat Husain of IBA, Dr Ijaz Nabi of
LUMS, Abid Hasan, a former World Bank official, Farooq Rahmatullah, a former
managing director of Shell Pakistan, Zubair Soomro, a former president of
United Bank Limited, Arshad Zubairi of Business Recorder, Farrakh Qayyum of
Global Energy, Dr Sania Nishtar, a health minister in caretaker government, Dr
Ashfaq Hassan Khan of National University of Science and Technology,
Muslahuddin of PIDE, Dr Abid Qayyum Suleri of SDPI, Qazi Azmat Essa of Pakistan
Poverty Alleviation Fund and Akbar Zaidi, Furrukh Saleem, Saqib Sherani and
heads of Board of Investment, State Bank of Pakistan and Federal Board of
Revenue.
