ECONOMIC SUMMIT TO CONNECT S ASIA REGION
In a bid to strengthen connection between the people of South Asia, the Fifth South Asian Economic Summit will be held in Islamabad in mid September 2012.
The Summit is expected to be inaugurated by President Asif Ali Zardari whereas Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Rabbani Khar will address the closing ceremony as chief guest. Around 200 foreign delegates from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and some 3000 delegates Pakistan would be attending the three-day Summit which marks one of largest convergences of senior level South Asian policy makers in Pakistan with the participation of over a dozen ministers, government officials, economists, academician, businessmen, and civil society representatives.
At a media briefing held in Islamabad on Monday, the Chief Coordinator of the Summit Dr. Vaqar Ahmed said that it was a big achievement that despite security concerns the Summit is being held in Pakistan which will give a message to the world that Pakistan means business. One of the prime objectives of the Summit is to make an effort to bind the people of South Asia which remain disconnected as compared to other regions of the world.
