Govt’s initiatives to engage youth in economic activities
Federal Secretary
Information Dr Nazeer Saeed said on Saturday the Federal Government had started many initiatives to help
youth start businesses and engage in economic and social activities, especially in conflict hit areas.
He said peace was imperative for the whole
world and the democratically elected government embarked on a
multi-pronged strategy to solve economic and social
problems.
He was addressing the national summit on Pakistan Peace Initiative
organized by "Search for Common Ground" (SFCG), a non-governmental
organization, here.
The Secretary Information said the government desired friendly relations with
India and it was supporting efforts for peace in Afghanistan.
He said media had a critical role to play
in promoting dialogue among the youth. It had the capability to engage the
youth in healthy activities.
Social media was a new platform where people could raise their concerns and
voice opinions on different issues, he added. He thanked the Danish government
for its financial assistance for the
peace project, and for creating opportunities for the youth and building
bridges among the people for sustainable peace.
He appreciated the responsible role of media on Ashura and during the
Rawalpindi incident.
Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Jesper Sorensen said peace thrived in an
environment of hope, imagination, creativity and social and economic progress.
