Green Industry
This refers to the editorial, ‘Toxic business ‘ (May 4). Every industry (be of sugar or some other product) in the country is fully responsible for pre-treating
its releases (effluents to land/water bodies & emissions to air) at
source before it reaches at the factory boundary exit point, prior to flowing into the factory drain, if any. EPAs are fully responsible for implementing environmental legislation to safeguard public/workers safety and health and protect the environment. We look forward to the EPA, KP findings of the unfortunate incident that led to a loss of precious lives, to bring to justice those responsible for the tragedy.
However,
industries need not be closed down or banned or the industrial progress
growth be slow downed in the country. What is most important and desirable is our industry turning into a green industry, with adequate investment in pollution control measures to avoid any such accidents in the future.
