The overarching theme of this year’s Conference is Sustainable Development in the Times of COVID-19. Read more…       FOOD SECIRITY DASHBOARD: On 4th Nov, SDPI has shared the first prototype of Food Security Dashboard with Dr Moeed Yousaf, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on  National Security and Economic Outreach in the presence of stakeholders, including Ministry of National Food Security and Research. Provincial and district authorities attended the event in person or through zoom. The dashboard will help the government monitor and regulate the supply chain of essential food commodities.

KP politicians, businessmen agree to sign charter of economy

Major political parties and business community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday agreed to sign charter of economy to work for economic development of the country. The proposal for signing a charter of economy between the political parties and business community was flouted by a renowned industrialist and PTI Senator Nauman Wazir while speaking in a high-level meeting on Possible Economic Agenda for Elections 2018 organized under the auspices of Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).
Faisal Karim Kundi of PPP, Bushra Gohar (ANP), Haji Ghulam Ali of JUI-F also attended the meeting while business community was represented by Mohammad Adnan Jalil, a former vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) while PML-N was represented by Haji Mohammad Afzal, former president of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) and Zahidullah Shinwari represented Sarhad Chamber.
In his speech, Nauman Wazir attributed decline in the exports to the high cost of energy, which he said is manifold higher than other local markets. He said that fertilizer sector is getting cheap natural gas, saying that instead of wasting tax on the sector, it should be imported. He stressed need for the announcement of a growth-oriented SME policy and taking stakeholders on board before entering into Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with any country. He said that FTA signed with China had proved devastated for the country and has benefited only the former.
Senator Nauman Wazir said that PTI is constantly demanding a charter of economy amongst all politicians and other stakeholders. Faisal Karim Kundi, senior PPP leader and former Deputy Speaker, National Assembly welcomed the proposal of PTI and assured that they will always appreciate such solid recommendations. He said that all political parties should sit together to prepare a charter of economy and then follow it in letter and spirit.
