Medical, dental educational curricula to be upgraded
ISLAMABAD: The top medical regulatory body on Monday joined hands with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to revise national medical and dental curricula to bring it at par with international standards.
Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) President Dr Masood Hameed, in a joint press conference with HEC Chairperson Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, said it was the need of the hour to upgrade the curriculum for improving professional capabilities of students.
“It is the time to update MBBS and BDS curriculum in the country to compete with the world”, said Hameed.
He added that new technologies for treatment of patients were being introduced across the world therefore there was a need to incorporate those advancements in medical and dental programmes.
The council has constituted a special team to monitor and address complaints being received by PMDC regarding medical universities, he said.
Ahmed said “The MBBS/BDS curriculum is going to be revised after almost 10 years.” He said the agenda of the meeting was to change the traditional medical dental education to an integrated or modular system of education.
