Dr. Mahmood A. Khwaja, Senior adviser, chemicals, hazardous wastes/sites and sustainable industrial development, SDPI, represented SDPi in 16th international conference of Pacific Basin Consortium (PBC) for environment and health,
August 10 – 13, 2015, University of Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia and in the technoical session on " Exposure to Metals in South Asia." made presentation on, "Mercury Exposure in the Workplace and Human Health"with special reference to dental amalgam Use in dentistry. Over fifty participants from 22 countries, besides participants from Indonesia and university students, are participating in the 4 daus conference. Concluding his presentation, Dr. Khwaja called upon the governments to ratify Minamata Convention on Mercury, at the earliest and in the light of the finding of the research carried out at SDPI, strongly recommended Regulating mercury amalgam use in the country and the review and revision of the present BDS curriculum, offered at the dental teaching institutions in the country.
