SDPI ELECTED UN-REDD OBSERVER FOR ASIA-PACIFIC REGION (SDPI PRESS RELEASE)
Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), the countrys premier policy think tank has been elected as a CSO observer to UN-REDD Programme Policy Board for Asia-Pacific Region, stated a press release issued by SDPI here on Sunday.
SDPI got elected through a voting process where 19 organizations from 12 countries including Pakistan contested for the position of UN-REDD CSO Observer from ASIA-PACIFIC region. The other contesting countries included India, Eastern and Western Provinces of Solomon Islands, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam.
Kanwar Muhammad Javed Iqbal, the SDPI representative would represent Asia-Pacific region as Observer for the next two year term. He would also solicit issues and concerns at UN-REDD Policy Boards on behalf of civil society organizations and their constituencies, including womens organizations and networks. He will participate in Policy Board meetings, provide input, disseminate information among constituencies and would contribute to working groups that may be formed to take Policy Board decisions forward.
