The overarching theme of this year’s Conference is Sustainable Development in the Times of COVID-19. Read more…       FOOD SECIRITY DASHBOARD: On 4th Nov, SDPI has shared the first prototype of Food Security Dashboard with Dr Moeed Yousaf, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on  National Security and Economic Outreach in the presence of stakeholders, including Ministry of National Food Security and Research. Provincial and district authorities attended the event in person or through zoom. The dashboard will help the government monitor and regulate the supply chain of essential food commodities.

Shafqat Kakakhel elected as chairperson SDPI Board of Governors

Shafqat
Kakakhel, Former Ambassador and Deputy Executive Director of UNEP, has been
elected as sixth chairperson of Board of Governors of Sustainable Development
Policy Institute (SDPI)

He
was a former diplomat and a high ranking official of United Nations. He was
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Uganda and Ambassador to Ethiopia from 1994-1998,
said a press release

He
was appointed as Deputy Executive Director of United Nations Environment
Program (UNEP) with rank of Assistant Secretary General in August 1998. He retired
from UN in December 2007.

He
was elected member of the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanisms
under the Kyoto Protocol as a nominee of the Government of Pakistan in December
2008.

Kakakhel
is also Member Advisory Board of Ministry of Environment. He is also a member
of the National Task Force on Climate Change.

In
outlining his vision for the organization, Kakakhel said that "Since its
inception two decades ago, SDPI has played an invaluable role in highlighting
the importance of sustainable development in the country through its research
and advocacy work for which it has received appreciation and support within and
outside the country."
