South Asian Leaders Laud Pakistan’s Regional Integration Plan through CPEC
South Asian leaders have lauded Pakistan government’s regional economic integration plan through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor saying CPEC is not only the future of Pakistan but also of South Asian countries.
They expressed these views while attending the eighth South Asia Economic conference in Islamabad on Monday.
Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal in his remarks said CPEC, a 46 billion USD project, is a gateway to Asian economic development through infrastructure building, industrial zones, and transportation links that would bring benefits for more than 3 billion people of the region.
Chairman Board of Investment, Miftah Ismail said Pakistan government is giving top priority to mega projects like Turkmenistan -Afghanistan Pakistan India (TAPI) and Central Asia and South Asia (CASA).
Addressing the conference, experts urged South Asian leadership to show a strong political will to fully operationalize South Asia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) for promotion of regional trade.
