Speakers urge for unity to respond to ME crisis

The emerging conflict and new crises developing in Middle East has put Pakistan in a very difficult situation. To respond the serious challenges posed on diplomatic front that entailed grave geo-political consequences, national unity was need of hour. The speakers said this while expressing their views at the seminar ‘Changing Power Dynamics in the Context of Prevailing Situation in Middle East’ held at Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) here on Monday. Afrasiab Khattak, senior politician and analyst, covered the historic background of conflict in Middle East and said that there was fear that Pakistan could push itself to present quagmire in Middle East by becoming a frontline state again and by associating itself with one of the party to conflict such as ‘Islamic Alliance’ that was actually led by US and Israel being its unannounced member. He said that Pakistan must maintain its neutrality in the situation and should focus on exploring some way out while applying diplomacy. He warned that becoming part of the conflict would have serious implications for Pakistan and especially, the situation in Baluchistan, which was already volatile, could become worst and hence, may result as ‘internationalisation’ of the issue. Imtiaz Gul, senior defense and political analyst, on the occasion said that Pakistan cannot remain unaffected if Iran is going to involve in any conflict situation.
