YOUNG PEOPLE?S ROLE CRUCIAL FOR PEACE BUILDING
Peace is all about understanding one another’s perceptions and young people can play a crucial role in positively transforming conflict situations and contributing in building peaceful societies.
Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) Executive Director Dr. Abid Suleri stated this while addressing the concluding session of a five-day workshop ‘Young leaders for peace’ jointly organised by the SDPI, Search for Common Ground Pakistan and the DANIDA International.
Country Director of SFCG, Pakistan, Ammara Durrani, said that every positive social change depends upon our dialogue with self and with each other adding that dialogue based on respect and reconciliation is the most effective way to transform and resolve conflict.
Acknowledging youth as agent of peace, the speakers called for involving and partnering with young people for positive change rather than considering them as a problem, aggressors or victims during the conflicts. We must capitalise on youth potential who can serve as powerful drivers of political, social and economic transformation, they added.
The participants briefed on knowledge of consensus building and dialogue skills and encouraged to analyse conflicts in their respective communities, identify potential solutions and develop joint action plans.
