Research institutions in Pakistan are engaged in policy research related economy, nutrition health, social, policy, governance, peace and conflict, evaluation, education etc. The study aims to map these research institutions in order to provide a broader overview of these institutions engaged in policy research, their thematic priorities, geographic concentration as well as sources of funding available to them.
The study highlights linkages between research and policy-making, social science base, practices in commissioning of policy research, and a wide range of barriers being faced by those who are conducting policy research. It evaluates critically the role of international donors in the overall landscape of policy research. The study finds opportunities offered by the changing institutional context of strengthening research institutions and the uptake of research into policies and practices.
