Introduction:
In KPK, Pakistan, forest management and governance rules have changed substantially through a reform process during the last decade. The Government claimed that this process would establish an inclusive participatory form of forest management but studies didn’t show this. This project initiated a research based policy advocacy to influence policy makers about forest issues.
Objectives:
- To engages stakeholders in informed constructive dialog.
- To disseminate research findings and policy message to relevant forest management emerged from research conducted by SDPI.
- To highlight local stakeholders concerns regarding forest management issues.
The main stakeholders were officials from forestry wings of provincial and federal ministries, civil society organization, donor agencies, researchers and media. The M&E Unit of SDPI played the role of a catalyst and bridged the gap between the community’s expectations and policy makers. Highlights of the project were influencing policy making through research and involvement of grass-root level organizations in the dialogue and advocacy process.
