Mr Sakib Sherani
Founder and CEO, Macro Economic Insights (Pvt.) Ltd
Mr Sakib Sherani is a Pakistani economist and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Macro Economic Insights (Pvt.) Ltd., an Islamabad-based economic research and advisory firm. His professional experience spans public policy, financial services, international capital markets, corporate governance, development and non-profit organisations.
He served as Principal Economic Adviser to the Ministry of Finance (2009–2010) and has been associated with successive Prime Ministers’ Economic Advisory Councils and equivalent advisory bodies since 2004. Previously, he served as Chief Economist at ABN AMRO Bank Pakistan/Royal Bank of Scotland (2000–2009).
His public policy experience includes negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), economic and tax reforms, preparation of the Pakistan Economic Survey, federal budget formulation, negotiations on the 7th National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, development of macroeconomic frameworks, public sector enterprise restructuring and social protection.
Mr Sherani has also served on the Planning Commission’s Panel of Economists and the Revenue Advisory Council, and held directorships at the Social Policy and Development Centre (SPDC) and Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN). He has been an opinion columnist for Dawn since 2011.
His areas of expertise include macroeconomic policy, fiscal and economic reforms, financial markets, corporate governance and development economics. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
