Policy Recommendations

SI Expo Fireside Chat - 8: PepsiCo’s rPET* Journey
  • Consumer product companies should invest in building and enhancing supplier capacity to support a sustainable rPET supply chain.
  • Sustainability and outreach initiatives should include educational and recycling programmes, launched in partnership with sustainability organisations like WWF or IUCN etc., to increase public awareness about sustainable products and the benefits of rPET.
  • Cost optimisation efforts by companies should focus on utilising advanced technologies and strengthening value chains to make rPET production more affordable.
  • Global alliances with other markets and industries can provide insights into rPET processes, enabling companies to explore various technologies and reduce costs through shared expertise and collaborative innovation.
* rPET stands for recycled polyethylene terephthalate, which is a type of plastic derived from recycling PET (polyethylene terephthalate) materials, commonly used in products like plastic bottles and food containers. rPET is produced by collecting, sorting, and recycling used PET items, which are then processed into new rPET resin that can be used to manufacture new products. This recycling process reduces waste, conserves resources, and supports more sustainable production practices in industries like beverages, food packaging, and consumer goods.
