Building Resilience through Community Engagement for ‘Building Forward Better’
  • There is a need for developing comprehensive policies and plans, based on learnings from on-ground experiences, that help rescue communities during disasters and fulfill their actual needs.
  • The importance of Community-Based Disaster Management (CBDM) is widely acknowledged. Therefore, community engagement is critical for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). Not engaging communities in the decision-making processes, as major stakeholders, is counterproductive.
  • Quantification of vulnerabilities, through Resilience Analysis, allows government officials, local stakeholders, and decision-makers to better understand the dynamics of socio-ecological vulnerability and help significantly improve strategies, policies, and legislative measures.
