Perspectives on Community Resilience to Counter Violent Extremism
- Without implementing Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) measures, current issues especially related to religiously inspired militancy, would remain unresolved.
- With no proper framework for its counterterrorism policy, Pakistan’s success against terrorist groups will remain limited. The need is to formulate a concrete counterterrorism policy encompassing all the essential tools, a roadmap, and an implementation mechanism.
- Policymakers need to evaluate and assess the successes and failures of CVE measures taken during the last decade and devise a functional strategy with the consensus of all stakeholders.
- There is a need to place community resilience to violent extremism in the National Action Plan that will enable each sector of society to play its role in countering violent extremism.
- A people-centric approach is essential for countering violent extremism in society. A top-down approach to remains invalid until the community engages in the process. Therefore, it is necessary to engage communities in formulating CVE-related policies and decision-making.
- Since Violent Extremism is not only a national issue but also a provincial one, therefore, there is a need for provincial-level legislation to CVE. Political stability at the national as well as provincial levels is essential for the implementation of CVE policies in Pakistan.
