Plenary 2.1 Climate Change & Food Security: Does Regenerative Agriculture Offer Hope in Despair?

These recommendations are geared towards improving agricultural sustainability and productivity, particularly in response to climate change challenges of Pakistan. They highlight the need for incorporation of technology, adoption of regenerative farming methods, diversification of crops, and the efficient management of water and energy resources:

 

o   Develop policies to seamlessly integrate technology and foster innovation in agriculture, enabling diverse and comprehensive approaches for societal advancement.

o   Implement a comprehensive strategy that begins with soil testing, followed by farmer demonstrations to showcase and promote the adoption of best agricultural practices.

o   Enact policies focused on regenerating agricultural practices to boost productivity in the agricultural sector.

o   Establish a policy framework that encourages farmers to diversify their crop mix, facilitated by government interventions to ensure the adaptation of a variety of major crops.

o   Re-evaluate the ecosystem approach for water conservation, with a specific focus on practices like ‘warabandi’ and integrate energy considerations into water management policies.
