Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana is Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) since September 2018.
She previously held key national leadership roles as Minister of National Development Planning and Head of BAPPENAS, Co-chair of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation, and Alternate Governor to the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank representing Indonesia.
Her contributions extend to various academic and policy platforms, including the Governing Board of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI), the Forum of Statistics Community (Advisory Council of Indonesian Statistics), the International Advisory Board of the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies, and the Council of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI). Earlier, she also served as Professor of Economics at Universitas Padjadjaran in Indonesia, where she has led the Center for Sustainable Development Goals Studies and served as Vice Chair of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences.
Ms Alisjahbana was awarded the Mahaputra Adipradana Order (Bintang Mahaputra Adipradana) from the Republic of Indonesia, honorary brevet from the Indonesian Navy and honorary flight wing from the Indonesian Air Force. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Washington, Seattle.
