Dr Nishat Riaz

Dr Nishat Riaz is CEO of the Malala Fund. She is leading the Fund’s work to strengthen girls’ right to secondary education and increase resources for education systems in the country. Her role also serves as part of the organisation’s executive leadership team steering Malala Fund’s global programmes. She has over 24 years of experience in education leadership. Over these years, she has developed, managed and supervised large-scale programmes on health, gender, skills, culture and education. Dr Riaz is one of the founding members of Karakorum International University - the first university in Gilgit-Baltistan. 

Previously, she has also been Chairperson of CIQAM; and was the global head of higher education systems and TNE lead at British Council, covering around 200 regions and countries with a budget of around 20 million pounds. As the global lead, Ms Riaz provided advice and technical expertise to governments, sector agencies, networks and partners in developing and nurturing sustainable education systems across seven regions including Americas, Europe, South and Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Sub Saharan Africa and East Asia.
