Mr Asif Iqbal is Managing Director of the Social Policy and Development Centre (SPDC). He Iqbal has over 20 years of experience in research and policy analysis, with expertise spanning governance, public finance, and social service delivery. His recent work focuses on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tobacco taxation, social vulnerability, public finance, and decentralisation within Pakistan’s federal system, particularly its implications for the delivery of basic social services.
He has served as a member of the Steering Committee of the Centre for Research on Poverty and Income Distribution, Government of Pakistan. Earlier in his career, he was part of SPDC’s team that provided technical assistance to the Government of Eritrea in conducting the Living Standards Measurement Survey and preparing the Poverty Reduction Strategy for Eritrea (2002-03).
Mr Iqbal holds an MA in Economics from the University of Karachi and an M.P.A. (Development) from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.
