Prathma Uprety is Director (Information and Poverty Alleviation) at the SAARC Secretariat since February 2025. Ms Uprety is a career diplomat. Prior to this appointment, she served as Under-Secretary at the United Nations and International Organization Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal. She has also served as a Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York from 2019 to 2023. Between 2021 and 2023, she also served as the Acting Deputy Permanent Representative, with responsibility for the Second and Third Committees of the UN General Assembly, covering issues related to economic development, social affairs, humanitarian concerns, and human rights. She also represented the Asia-Pacific Group as a Bureau Member in the Second Committee during the 76th Session of UN General Assembly.
She holds Master’s degrees in Political Science and Rural Development, and Bachelor’s degree in English.
