Udaya Namalgama currently serves as Head of District at the Consumer Affairs Authority under the Ministry of Trade, Sri Lanka, where he oversees trade-related operations to ensure the availability and fair distribution of essential food and consumer goods at the district level. Alongside his administrative role, he is actively engaged in research with a strong focus on international trade, trade agreements, and trade disputes. With more than 15 years of research and professional experience, Mr Namalgama has contributed to several key areas in trade and agricultural development. He previously worked at the Coconut Development Authority under the Ministry of Plantation Management, Sri Lanka, where he was engaged in research, policy analysis, and sectoral development initiatives. He is in the final stages of completing his PhD in International Trade. He holds a B.Sc. in Agricultural Technology and Management, specialising in Agricultural Economics and Business Management, from the University of Peradeniya, and a M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya
