Resilient Dairy
Futures: Integrating Nutrition, Circularity & Climate Action
As Pakistan works to build
a climate-resilient and nutrition-secure dairy sector, coordinated action across policy, industry, and value chain actors is essential to advance
circularity, reduce emissions, and strengthen long-term sustainability.
- Processing
challenges within the dairy sector need to be addressed to support
progress towards a circular economy and reduce emissions at the livestock
level.
- Procedural
bottlenecks should be streamlined to improve overall operational
efficiency.
- Enhancing
feed quality is essential for lowering livestock-related greenhouse gas
emissions.
- Increased
financing is required to support efficient and sustainable packaging and
processing across the dairy value chain.
- Industrial
symbiosis should be promoted to produce biogas as a viable alternative to
fossil fuels.
- National
standards on sustainable dairy production should be strengthened,
including clearer guidelines on emission management, feed quality, and
responsible waste handling.
- Incentive
frameworks, such as green subsidies, concessional loans, or tax reductions,
should be introduced to accelerate the adoption of climate-smart
technologies in processing and packaging.
- Compliance
and monitoring mechanisms should be enhanced so that dairy producers and
processors meet environmental, safety, and sustainability benchmarks
consistently.
