Educational and Social Transitions in Rural Pakistan

Introduction: This study, presented at the 11th UK Foundation for International Education and Training (UKFIET) at the University of Oxford, Sep 13-15, 2011 was jointly conducted by SDPI and the University of Cambridge. Based upon the quantitative and qualitative data which was collected under the DFID funded Research Consortium on Educational Outcomes and Poverty, this study explored the micro-level inter-generational transitions in social relations that result from schooling sons and daughters in poor households. It investigated in detail the ways in which education impacts on young people and their parents’ habits of thoughts, their social relations, capabilities and the various forms of capital benefits of education.
