Sindh Minister for Labour and Social Protection, Saeed Ghani, highlighted the importance of empowering women with digital tools, financial products, and confidence to actively participate in the workforce, manage household resources efficiently, and build resilience against economic and climate-related shocks.
He made these remarks during the launch of the Digital and Financial Literacy Training (DFLT) programme by the Sindh Social Protection Authority (SSPA). The initiative, implemented by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute, is supported by the European Union and the German Government through GIZ.
Minister Ghani stated that the programme aligns with the Sindh government’s broader vision to enable women not only to survive but to thrive. He stressed that social protection and labour empowerment are interconnected, and expanding access to digital tools, banking channels, and financial literacy is vital for women’s socioeconomic mobility.
Jeroen Willems, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Pakistan, described the programme as a key pillar of the EU’s support for adaptive social protection, disaster-risk reduction, and climate resilience. He called digital and financial literacy a “golden opportunity” to equip women with the skills needed for personal and economic growth.
The DFLT programme will assess the needs of rural women while incorporating modules on climate awareness, responsible parenting, and nutrition. By combining financial literacy with digital skills and life-awareness training, the initiative aims to foster empowered, resilient communities where women can contribute meaningfully to both household and broader economic wellbeing.
Through this programme, the Sindh government and its partners seek to create sustainable pathways for women’s empowerment, ensuring they are prepared to face economic challenges, participate in the workforce, and actively contribute to community resilience.
