Pakistan’s Climate Prosperity: Road to an Inclusive and Equitable Development

Partners: The Royal Danish Embassy

Focal Person: Dr Khalid Waleed, Mr. Ubaid ur Rehman Zia

Description:

Pakistan, ranked among the most climate-vulnerable countries, faces severe impacts from climate change, including catastrophic floods and heatwaves. These events exacerbate existing socio-economic vulnerabilities and strain the country's limited fiscal space. There is a critical need to move beyond short-term crisis management and embed climate resilience into long-term economic planning.

This project aims to develop an inclusive and strategic roadmap to guide Pakistan's Climate Prosperity Plan. Inspired by Denmark's "State of Green" model, the initiative will integrate diverse perspectives including civil society, women, youth, and vulnerable communities to ensure climate action is equitable and aligned with sustainable development goals. The project will foster multi-stakeholder collaboration to turn climate challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth.

Project Objective:

To support Pakistan in advancing its climate prosperity through a strategic partnership, fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration, and designing inclusive, scalable interventions that align with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key Proposed Outputs:

Integrate climate change into fiscal planning: Develop a policy paper and conduct regional workshops to provide actionable guidance for embedding climate resilience into national economic policies.

Replicate the "State of Green Model": Develop and launch a "Pakistan’s State of Green" website to serve as a hub for climate-smart initiatives and successful public-private partnerships.

Enhance green skills and capacity: Implement a "Training of Trainers" program across all provinces to build local expertise in off-grid renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

Showcase climate-smart initiatives: Organize an investor roadshow, a Denmark-Pakistan culture event, and a side activity at COP30 to highlight and scale successful projects.

Strengthen political discourse: Conduct national dialogues, parliamentary consultations, and bootcamps for journalists and the private sector to build political consensus for an inclusive climate prosperity plan.

Project Activities:

Research and advocacy for policy development.

Regional workshops and national dialogues.

"Training of Trainers" workshops in all four provinces.

Development and launch of the "Pakistan’s State of Green" website.

Investor roadshows and international showcasing at COP30.

Production of documentaries, podcasts, and a social media campaign.
