For a balanced comprehension, especially for senior citizens, the talking speed should be about 150 to 175 words per minute (WPM), that is about 2.5 words per second. This should be the standard. But, currently, the TV news anchors read the news at an overwhelming speed, resulting in a significant drop in comprehension.
My strong suggestion would be that the reading or broadcasting speed of the news should be slowed down a bit.
