Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbassi says government is spending huge resources for the promotion of education in the country.
He was speaking as chief guest at the annual report launching of Alif Ailaan Pakistan District Education Rankings 2014 in Islamabad on Thursday.
The Minister said over the years the government has tried to address the gender parity issues in education and now these have been largely resolved. He admitted that disparity exists among different provinces of the country in terms of quality education, enrolment and access.
Meanwhile, Islamabad tops the list in terms of education score in the 2014 rankings, followed by Punjab, AJK, Gilgit Baltistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Balochistan and FATA.
The survey covered one hundred and forty six districts of Pakistan based on primary school data. In Punjab, northern districts dominate the education rankings. All thirty six districts in the province score above fifty on the education index. The highest ranking districts in the province are Chakwal, Rawalpindi and Attock while the districts performing poorly are Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh.
In Sindh, Karachi is the highest ranking district while Thatta, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot are the lowest ranking districts in the province.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Abbotabad and
Haripur are top performing districts in education while Kohistan and
Shangla are lowest ranking districts.
And in Balochistan, Gwadar and Quetta are the highest ranking districts
in the province while Dera Bugti and Killa Abdullah are the lowest
scoring districts.
