Web Desk: Economic and energy experts say that there is a dire need for alternative energy in Pakistan.
Addressing a seminar on the topic of alternative energy in Karachi, former Governor State Bank Shamshad Akhtar said that our country is a target of greenhouse gases of other countries, Pakistan is the fifth country in terms of climate change.
Shamshad Akhtar further said that Pakistan is too dependent on imports for energy. Executive Director of Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) Abid Saliri expressed his views and said that alternative energy is the country’s priority. But we also have to see that the solar powered tube wells do not deplete the ground water too much.
Ihsan Malik, the CEO of Statistics Institute, who participated in the event, said that the IMF did not bother to know the basic flaw while increasing the energy prices. Due to the electricity distribution companies are demanding Rs.8.
On this occasion, the CEO of Pakistan Business Council said that high-cost power plants should be replaced.
