Partner: APFED, UNEP & NIDA-Pakistan

Duration: 2010-11

Locale: Kohistan and Malakand

Introduction: Project activities have been carried out in two districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Kohistan and Malakand, in collaboration with local CBOs, NIDA-Pakistan, Beshan and Sahara Welfare Foundation, Malakand and funding support by APFED, Japan and UNEP National Committee, Republic of Korea. With the support of local elders, the two CBOs constituted village based local community committees in selected villages of the project areas for the implementation of project activities. Advocacy and awareness raising & training workshops were held to introduce EECSs to minimize wood cutting to save forests. Appropriate messages to save forests, protection of the environment and use of fuel efficiency stoves are also inscribed on road side rocks along the Pak-China friendship highway. Local blacksmiths were trained to manufacture low cost EECSs stoves and local workshops have been open. Local villagers were also trained to build EECSs from clay, using a metallic mould, to further cut down the cost and self reliance among rural population.
