Background:
The early years of child’s life (from birth to 8 years) provide the foundation for development of life-long skills and all subsequent learning. Good health, a safe and nurturing environment and the right kind of mental stimulations give a child a strong frame work for growth and helps ensure later success at school at work and in society. International experience suggests that early interventions provide a unique opportunity to avoid future learning problems, including reduction in dropout in primary years in addition to benefiting the family, community and society.
For the purpose of designing an ECED intervention, a situation analysis carried out in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh to assess the extent to which the period of learning in a child’s life is being exploited.
Objectives:
➢ To investigate the determinants (social deprivation, familial and community) of ECD amongst age group 0-8.
➢ To illustrate how the determinants of ECD impact children’s mental and learning abilities
➢ To develop a framework which focuses on ECD interventions and policies.
➢ To provide policy and practical recommendations for the institutionlaisation of ECED across Pakistan.
