A Policy Dialogue on

Reimagining Plastics and renewable solution to environmental degradation

Venue: Main Auditorium, VC Secretariat, Allama Iqbal Open University

Date: 6th June 2023

On the eve of the World Environment Day (WED) 2023, one cannot ignore that plastic pollution is a serious environmental concern in Pakistan, with over 3.3 million tonnes of plastic garbage generated each year. This waste ends up in landfills, oceans, and other ecosystems, harming wildlife, human health, and the environment. According to a UNDP report, the entire quantity of plastic garbage generated in Pakistan was equal to the size of two K-2 mountains, the world's second-highest mountain peak. Similarly, some of other contributors to the climate crisis are unsustainable transport system and energy production and consumption which are the largest source of anthropogenic air pollution that caused health hazards.

In this context, the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), in collaboration with National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF), Allama Iqbal Open University, …………………………………………, is organising a high-level policy dialogue on “Reimagining Plastics and renewable solution to environmental degradation” to discuss a way forward for managing plastics, air pollution from the production and consumption of energy, and transport.
