Senior Research Associate
Abdullah Khalid is a public policy, governance, and political economy specialist with over a decade of experience in policy research, institutional reform, legislative and regulatory analysis, and economic governance. His work focuses on strengthening public institutions, improving regulatory systems, and supporting evidence-based policymaking to advance inclusive and sustainable economic development in Pakistan.
At the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Abdullah leads and contributes to multidisciplinary research and policy advisory initiatives on economic governance, political economy, public sector modernization, investment climate, legislative and regulatory reform, digital governance, private sector development, and local government systems. He has extensive experience undertaking institutional diagnostics, political economy assessments, and stakeholder engagement processes that inform policy design and reform implementation.
His work spans federal, provincial, and local governments, where he has supported evidence-based reforms aimed at improving governance, regulatory quality, institutional effectiveness, public sector performance, and citizen-centered service delivery. He has also designed and facilitated policy dialogues and capacity-building initiatives for policymakers, elected representatives, public officials, business associations, and civil society organizations.
Abdullah's research interests include economic governance, political economy, democratic governance, institutional reform, decentralization, regulatory governance, and private sector competitiveness. His policy analysis and commentary have been published in Dawn, Business Recorder, and The News International, contributing to national discourse on governance and public policy.
He also serves as Secretary of the National Network of Economic Think Tanks (NNETT), where he contributes to strengthening evidence-informed policymaking and fostering collaboration between research institutions and policymakers in Pakistan.
