Research Associate
Amna Urooj is a Research Associate at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), where she plays a key role in advancing research on ecological sustainability and circular economy initiatives. Before joining SDPI, Amna served as a Development Research Specialist at the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), where she focused on policy advising and developing strategic solutions for the textile and apparel sectors, with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental stewardship. Amna’s research intersects the fields of sustainable development, public policy, and economic analysis, with a particular focus on integrating circular economy principles into national policies to foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Her recent work includes contributing to the UNEP's Circular Trade Textile and Climate Finance initiatives, aimed at promoting sustainable practices in Pakistan. Amna has been involved in several key projects, including leading efforts to benchmark sectoral policies against international standards and identifying market trends to enhance the competitiveness of Pakistan’s textile industry. In addition to her research work, Amna has been a fellow with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Youth, where she collaborated on projects aimed at addressing urban challenges through sustainable solutions.
Amna is also an accomplished writer and has published numerous op-eds on topics such as renewable energy, sustainability practices, economic resilience, and the integration of circular economy strategies within Pakistan's industrial sectors. Her articles have appeared in leading publications like PIDE, Business Recorde and The News etc, contributing to the national discourse on sustainable development and economic policy. Some of her notable op-eds include "Invest in Renewable Energy," "Bridging the Gap between Education, Employment, and Entrepreneurship," and "Sustainable Business Practices in the Textile Sector of Pakistan."
Amna holds an M.Phil in Public Policy from the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) and a BS in Government and Public Policy from the National Defence University, Islamabad. She has also worked for various organizations, including the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform and the National Assembly, providing insights on sustainable development and economic policies. Amna is committed to advancing research that drives sustainable development and climate resilience in Pakistan.
