Senior Research Associate
'Syed Ali Wasif Naqvi has attained his MPhil in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad. At the early stages of his professional journey, he worked with various media entities, including ARY News, Pakistan Television News, and Sustainable Development Television (SDTV). He has also been engaged with the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). While associated with the SDTV Unit of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), he has produced news reports and short documentaries addressing diverse topics such as climate change, gender and transgender issues, economic development, sustainability, trade, and the energy crisis. Wasif possesses eight years of specialized experience in tobacco control. As a Senior Research Associate at SDPI, he is spearheading the project entitled ‘Creating a Tobacco Control Resource Hub, Providing Technical Policy Support for Tobacco and Nicotine Products, SLT, GHW/PHW and Textual Rotation, and Long-term Tobacco Pricing and Taxation Policy in Pakistan’ in partnership with the Ministry of Health and other relevant stakeholders. He has extensively engaged in tobacco control initiatives, dedicating eight years to this critical area. He has led multiple projects concerning tobacco control. He previously directed a study titled “Protecting and Promoting Freedom of Religion and Belief,” which focused on minority issues within Pakistan. He has also directed a study titled “Disaggregating Recruitment: Uncovering the Expectations, Obligations, and Hidden Steps in the Labor Migrant Recruitment Process.” The study addressed concerns related to the lives, living conditions, and employment circumstances of unskilled labor migrants in the Gulf states'
